Christmas comes early for Note Weavers!

Thank you Bolton Chamber Orchestra

Note Weavers are delighted to have received a generous donation from Bolton Chamber Orchestra, an amateur ensemble that has been performing in Bolton for over 50 years.  Note Weavers Directors Zoe and David Greenhalgh attended the orchestra’s Christmas concert at Bolton Parish Church earlier this month to acknowledge this welcome gift.

Musical Literacies

Director Zoe on the Autumn Early Years Summit

Last week our director Zoe was interviewed by Kathy Brodie for the autumn Early Years Summit which this years is focusing on Literacies.  Kathy is well known as an early years author and the founder and organiser of the Early Years Summit and Early Years TV.  The interview was lively and full of useful information and ideas for music and singing in early years environments as well as practical advice and support for practitioners who may not be confident in this area of the curriculum.

Here is a taster for you:

Early Years Music Workshop

10th November 2019, Salford Quays

The sun shone and a good day was had by all playing singing games and rhymes led by Zoe Greenhalgh.  Much was learnt along the way about musical development and early years pedagogy, not to mention many practical hints and suggestions about delivery skills and group management.  The feedback was 100% positive including comments such as: “Really useful, accessible, welcoming environment – I’ve learnt loads!”and “An enjoyable and easy going day – Well paced, lots of good advice & ideas”.

Progression in music learning was one of the themes of the day with discussion on the ways in which each song/activity can be developed and added complexity to extend learning or for use with children of other ages/stages of development.

Event report: Developing Practice and Partnerships April 2019

For this well attended event we were delighted to welcome Jane Parker to Manchester to talk about the work of the SoundWaves Network in the South West of England.

Jane’s presentation was excellent, challenging the current practice models and raising many questions, particularly around funding. To access the full presentation, please click on the picture below.

Following the presentation delegates formed smaller facilitated discussion groups to identify connections and communities for future collaborations.

Ideas related to areas such as providing CPD for practitioners in Early Years settings, the development of music bags, working with family and community groups and building parents confidence in singing.

The range of organisations and services listed was wide, reaching beyond the music and education sectors.

As usual we ended with a “Takeaway” – “What will you take away from today?”

From the comments received it seems that the event had provoked much questioning of current provision and opened eyes to new possibilities in terms of potential partnerships and models of working.

There was much “possibility thinking” with a real sense of excitement as delegates explored new ideas for collaborative working.
